If your living room is small it can have its advantages. It will be cozy and easy to heat in winter. It makes a wonderful intimate space that you can’t achieve in a huge room and of course it is less expensive to decorate as you need less carpet, less wallpaper and less paint! However, you also do not want to emphasize the size of a tiny room so here are three ways to make the most of your space:-

1. Check Sizes

You will need to avoid buying large furniture for your living room. Even though over-sized coffee tables and giant corner sofas may be in vogue, they are not for you. Do not buy anything without checking how it will fit into your small room. The problem is that furniture stores are generally huge and so everything appears smaller and “just right”. But once you get that huge sofa home and can hardly move in your small living room you will regret it. You need to be able to not only get the item into your room but also walk around it and your other furniture if you space is not to look cramped.

2. Keep the Decoration Simple

A neutral color scheme works best in a small room. Choose plain flooring and cream walls and sofa and then add impact with accessories. A simple round floor rug at the center of your seating area in a bright color or one wall of colored wallpaper or an unusual curtain fabric along with the odd throw and cushion are quite enough to add interest in a small room as far as decor goes.

3. Get Rid of Clutter

Anything lying about the room and blocking the flow of movement and vision is likely to make your room seem smaller. Keep floors as clear as possible and try and keep things tidied away leaving other surfaces clear too if possible. Dual use furniture is very useful in this respect. You could use a small cedar chest as a coffee or side table and it will provide handy storage too. A place for everything and everything in its place has to be your mantra in a small room.
